If you and the person you’re having a dispute with are open to discussing issues, mediation is probably a good option to consider.
Mediation can be used to resolve many family law disputes. If parenting is an issue, the court may order you to participate in mediation through conciliation services (free pre- decree/divorce). In Maricopa County, the courts are shifting to ordering parties to participate in private mediation. The cost of private mediation varies considerably… in June 2015, HLO found costs ranging from $75 – $375 per hour for private mediation.
Statistically the mediation process costs less than litigation and has a higher satisfaction to both parties – probably because both parties find a settlement that they can live with… instead of having a decision forced upon them by the judge/ court order. Mediation allows people to create their own solutions and agreements with less emotional stress and tension. Clients are more likely to obtain results they want from mediation than they would if they litigated their issue and allowed a family court judge to decide.
